Pressurized Cockpit Sailplane -- Perlan 2 -- Is Designed To Fly The Edge of Space
The first test flight was made Wednesday, September 23rd, 2015 from Redmond Municipal Airport in Central Oregon. The plane was towed to 5000 feet above the ground, airborne for 30 minutes, and safely landed. This project is sponsored by Airbus, designed and built at Windward Performance in Bend, Oregon, and assembled at RDD in Redmond, Oregon. This is Airbus' effort to reach to the edge of space and possibly to Mars.
